Work is taking a toll. Everyone and their mother are coming in even if they are not very sick just to get tested for COVID. Heck, even if they show no signs of COVID, the moment they come in we test them. This makes me super busy because one of my duties in the lab is dealing with all the COVID sample being sent down. And because there so many, it has become my primary duty.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not just test being done, hospitalizations are up to the point we are doubling up patiently in the rooms they are met for 1 person, which he has led to quite a few fights in rooms. Yes, most people will survive. A lot of that has to do with the fact we can keep people alive and have gotten good at keeping people alive. Translation. So long as we can treat people the death toll will remain low, too many people at one time and many will die.
It has been stressful, people are now calling off work because they are burnt out, this puts more strain on the people who still show up, like me. I was called at 0600 hours because they are slammed to see if I can help out. However, I am so mentally exhausted so I could not. I feel for them, but I just can’t do any more.
Don’t get me wrong, the extra $100 every 4 hours on top of my overtime and differential pay is nice, but I just can’t.

Anyway – if you wondered why I not been online much, it’s because I been busy and when I’m not, I too tired to interact, saving what little energy I have for my family.

What a day

I should title this post, ‘what a month.’ Especially since I’ve been so busy I have not even been able to continue my project building the Laboratories reference guide. However, today was just the icing on the cake.

Our main analyzer in the chemistry department had gone down. It’s old yet, instead of getting a new one, we just keep trying to repair it. The reason is, at least what they tell me, we are getting a new one, just not until the new building is built and we move in.

Anyway – So we call everyone to tell them how it’s not working. Then it would start working again almost right after we tell them it’s not of course. Then we call everyone, telling them it was working and send us the specimens. Only for the analyzer to stop working yet again. So we get a bunch more test as they beloved it was ok then lots of angry doctors asking about results.

Not to mention it’s been so busy and soon it will go to get worse with the flu season. The micro department will get the rapid flu test and if positive it will come to deal with adding to my workload.
