COVID-19: We could be creating a bigger problem.

There is no doubt that COVID-19, a novel Coronavirus poses a threat. People have died, been hospitalized and there may be long lasting physical effects that individuals may experience throughout the rest of their lives, we just don’t know about that yet.

However, I think we are creating a far bigger problem, that could cost far more lives than if we just did nothing and let this new virus burn through the population. We are creating this problem of how we are reacting and responding to the virus.

Our local and federal government is forcing people to stay home, shutting down businesses, imposing travel restrictions and more. This is causing people to lose their jobs, losing their incomes. Some 3 million people now with potentially up to 43 million people joining them soon.

What do you think will happen once they burn through their savings and remaining food? When they see their children starving? When they are being kicked out of their apartment (or home) for lack of payment? People will get desperate.  This can lead to riots, where people can get killed, crime increasing, such often becomes violent.

What do you think will happen when states lose tax revenues from so many people being out of work, unable to pay income tax, while buying less things generating less state sales taxes? Where the money is going to come from to care for all the people who are no longer putting money into the system but now need handouts? It certainly won’t be pretty.

Keep in mind the federal government has already created 2 trillion dollars out of thin air to help people, business and states.  What do you think this will do to inflation?

Even if we don’t have a huge economic collapse of this, the effects will be devastating. Many more people may die from riots, and committing crimes and defending against crimes, than if we would have just let COVID-19 burn through the population.  And if we have an economic meltdown own, we can add people striving for death.

No one wants to see people die, and we all want to do something to help people in this time of need. However, our good intentions of self isolation/quarantine, shutting the business down, creating money out of thin air may be something we look back on as a huge mistake that cost much more lives than it saved.

Sure, we don’t know for sure how this will play out. I suppose we’ll have a chance to argue about it later on after everything’s said and done. I just think we may be making a far larger problem that will cost lives for many years after the after the treat of virus has passed.
