Many parents who have raised their child in a Christian household have had their child (often when they are in their teens, or young adult) say to them that they don’t believe in God any more. This can hit parents hard, as many of us have spent a lot of time raising them to accept Christ as their lord and savor. Only now to be told they no longer believe.

Many parent’s reaction when confronted with such a thing is to become highly emotional with some parents crying or becoming angry. While others stay calm or just simply brush it off as if its just a phase when it is not. But what do you do? How do you react? Well here is a list of my suggestions.

Don’t get angry as this can cause you to say and do things you may regret later. It may also drive them further away from God or make them lie to you and pretend to be a Christian. Not because they believe, but to keep you from getting angry.

Don’t punish them for not believing. As this may cause resentment of you and may even become an excuse for them not to believe.

Sit down ask them why they don’t believe. Use this to see if it is a phase or not. Alternatively, it may just be a response they are having due to a lose or break up. Use this as a time to nudge them back into the belief if that is the case. However, avoid anything that can make the conversation argumentative.

If they continue to choice this path. Make it clear that your house is still a Christian house and as such things will still be ran that way. Explaining to them that you’re not going to force them to believe, but because it is a Christian house, you still have expectations. Such as when at the dinner table, that although they do not need to pray. They still cannot eat until after the Christian members within the family have said grace.

Make sure they know you love them. Be they a believe or not. Explain you will be there for them.

Express to them, that you will not hold this against them. You want them to feel comfortable returning to the fold and not embarrassed to return.

Pray for them and ask God to guide you through this.

All too often the Bible is attacked for being anti-woman. With this view of men getting all the advantages and privileges without giving up anything. This makes me suspect the people who say this, are viewing the Bible with their own sexist perspective that prevents them from seeing how untrue that is. Or if they had ever actually read the Bible for themselves and are just parroting what they have heard.

One look at the Bible and we find just how untrue this view is. Yes, it’s true the Bible does define the gender role of women. With married women being told to submit to their husbands (Ephesians 5:33), and that they are to be keepers of the home where (Proverbs 31). However, contrary to what some may believe. This does not mean her husband can just be her own personal dictator and lounge about the house and do nothing. As the Bible sets out some ground rules for the husband on this. And before I continue I want to talk about this.

On the surface, the bible saying that the wife must submit and be the keeper of the home does sound unfair for the women. It makes her sound like little more then a house servant, but what about the man? Ignoring the man seems to give this sexist ilusian. However, when we read more on this in the Bible. A much different image emerges.

The Bible makes it very clear that the husband can’t abuse this. With him being told that he cannot be harsh on her (Colosssians 3:18-19), and to treat her with respect (1 Peter 3:7). So again, the Bible makes it clear that he can’t be her own personal dictator. There is more as well. He is told to love his wife. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by washing with water through the word” (Ephesians 5:25-26). The Bible even tells the husband to love their wives as they would their own body’s (Ephesians 5:28-29).

It is love that changes the whole dynamic. Because, a man who loves his wife is not just sitting and watching football. He is helping his wife with the house work and the kids. This makes the husband the helper. And while the husband helps. He is to submit to her. As he is helping. Not leading in such a case.

Love is not an act of selfishness. It’s one of selflessness. Where you don’t take. You give. So when we read in the Bible that the Husband is to love his wife, and do so as he would his own body What the husband is being told is that he must put his wives wants and needs ahead of his own (He cannot forget about his own, however). He is to make sacrifices. She comes first. This really destroys the idea of the wife as some kind of mindless servant while the husband ends up with all the perks. Because the husband ultimately is to put her above himself.

The only time when that is not the case is when it contradicts the Biblical gender role of her husband. Such as, an issue of safety. Or where the husband must put needs ahead of wants. For example. The wife may really want some new shoes. However, the electric bill needs to come first. So the husband must choose to put such things a head of her wants. When ever he takes on his gender role. He is to do it in the context of love.

What we have is biblical gender roles that use our differences as strengths. Complementing one anther. With each gender role sacrificing for the other by use of our differences. However, the male gender role does not end at just loving his wife and respecting her. The husband is responsible for providing for his wife and children. He also must provided for his parents, disabled siblings, sister in laws if his brothers had died. Not to mention their children. And back then death was very common, so he may be responsible for great deal of people. And the bible makes it clear if he wants to be right with God this is something he needs to do ( 1 Timothy 5:8).

Not to mention, back in Biblical times. Laboring in order to provide for himself, let alone for others usually vary grueling, back-breaking work that was even dangerous to do. A simple cut could kill. And a broken leg could mean him, and his family will go hungry or worse.

The gender role of men did not end there. Men/husbands are expected to submit to the church, the authority’s even the king. They may even be forced to go to war. While having no representation form his king for such a sacrifice. A war that may lead to his death. Men had even been expected to give up their lives to protect their family from a wild animal or bandits who would seek to do his wife and family harm. Unless you were a king, queen or one of the vary few with any power. You had no privileges or advantages.

Does the Bible still sound like it is sexist ageist women now? Does it sound like men got all the advantages and privileges? Of course not. If anything it sounds like men have it harder than women. Even if the false view was true that women had been treated as nothing more than servants. However, for some. Mainly feminist, or people with a feminist mentality. They only spot a few things that to them look like the oppression of women because of their Biblical gender role, but completely ignore the Biblical gender role of the male. Why do you think that is?

I will tell you why. It is because of their own sexist world view. They seem not to have any issue with men keeping to the traditional biblical role as provider and protector that God wanted them to proform. A role of great sacrifice and labor. With a man who is expected to give up his place on a life raft to women and child as the ship he is on, sinks toward the bottom of the sea.

However, when it comes to the female biblical gender role that God wanted for them. Then that’s bad because this is what God wanted for women. They want women who are obviously different from men to have the same-gender role as that of men. Well, unless it comes to a sinking ship. Then women are expected to take on the traditional biblical gender role and get on that life raft. With men forfiting their life on that sinking ship. As well, they are expected to even be willing to die protecting the women from intruders, etc….. So they see no problem with the male’s traditional gender role. And even expect it. That is why they don’t complain about the male’s gender role. Only the females. Because men are expected without challenge to be…. well to be men. The hypocrisy of this feminist bias view is incredibility obvious.

The fact is, although men and women are equal in God’s eyes. Both men and women have been created (evolved) to have different gender roles. I know many feminist hate this idea and what to believe that men and women are equal except for our reproductive systems. However, that just simply not the case. It is our very differences that act as evidence that both men and women have been created for different gender roles. Not to mention it tell us who has it harder.

One look at our gender dimorphism seems to make this clear. Women are in general weaker and slower than most men. They have less endurance and cannot take as much physical trauma then men can. However, they can take more pain, which helps when giving birth. Men on the other hand, with some exceptions. Are stronger, faster, take more physical damage thanks in part to our stronger skeletons then a woman and even have a lot of endurance for long harsh journeys and hunts. This little fact seems to make it very obvious that men are designed not only for a much harsher life, but dare I say shorter life. However, men are designed to do what we do. With women designed for a less harsh and strenuous life.

Simply put the person who only sees hardships for the women and ignores the hardships of men is displaying their own sexism.

I overheard talking about how she was thinking about getting an abortion. Mainly because she wasn’t sure how she was going to afford the baby. As she was single, already had
one child(a little boy), and she has house payments.

So I can see, from her point of view, how difficult it would be to bring in yet another child when she can barely afford one that she already has. And in today’s world it’s very difficult for any person to be a single parent even if they are financially well off. But when they’re not then, it becomes that much more difficult.

For a moment I sat there a little bit stunned. I never expected to overhear such a conversation. I mean I know people on the Internet who support abortion/ a woman’s right to choose. But I never expected to know anybody who was actually thinking about doing it and was with child. I’ve never even met anybody who has ever openly admitted they had an abortion performed on them.

The next few moments I sat there, contemplating, the idea of, should I even get involved (Which now I am kicking myself in the butt, for even thinking I of not doing or saying something). Finally, I did decide to do something. I got up I walked away from her and I asked the nurse for a box of Kleenex. Then I walked over and put the Kleenex in front of her and said, take some. She thanked me in a way that made me think that she probably had not had anybody do anything
kind for her in a long time.

I then return the box and sat down beside her. I didn’t say anything for a few minutes. Mainly because, I was trying to figure out what I can or, should say in that situation. This was a very personal matter. So, getting involved in someones personal matters is something I feel is usually something that should be avoided. But again, this was a very important moral issue. And I felt like if I don’t do anything or say anything. Then I would be complicit with this act. Not to mention how absolutely horrible and guilty I would feel if I didn’t do anything when it comes to what I believe is morally wrong.

And seeing that now I have a kid on the way, how can I look into my child’s eyes and explained to this child that daddy may have been able to do something to save a life and did nothing.

However, as I sat there I just could not figure out what to say. What if I said something to her . moved her into making the wrong decision even though I had good intentions? What if I pushed her to hard? And she decided to do it as some form of, “I will show him”.

So there were so many things that I can do that definitely wouldn’t help the situation. I just simply was not ready, equipped or educated enough to confront her and have a one-on-one with the hopes that she will make a morally right decision.

So after going over this in my head for a little while with no solution of how to even start the conversation, I remembered I had a card in my pocket for the Phoenix pregnancy crisis center. A Christian organization that provides alternatives to abortion, like connecting couples looking to adopt with those who are willing to bring their child to term and give that child a chance to live.

I then just took the card out of my wallet and gave it to the young lady and told her “there are alternatives to what you’re thinking of doing”. She took the card looked but, then, her name was called and she left the room.

I then bowed my head and began praying for this woman. I pray that she would make the morally right choice. And that her situation would get better. But I also prayed that if she made the morally wrong choice that she would not be physically harmed by the procedure. And that when (if) she recognizes what she has done, that she will not suffer too much from the decision. But instead, learn from it. And perhaps help others in the future who one day may find themselves in a similar situation, using her experience to be be able to prevent them from the same mistake.

I hope that she called one of the numbers on the card and has found help. And has made the morally right decision.

I asked that all my readers pray for this unknown woman. No matter what choice she makes.

Well, it is May 21, the day that the rapture is supposed to take place. At least according to Harold Camping. And, not surprisingly as I opened my door this morning I found the sun shining and the birds singing. Frankly, it seems to be a very nice morning so far.

When turning on the news I see no reports of any earthquake as described by Harold Camping nor do I see any reports of any missing people, which one might expect when it comes to the rapture.

I wonder if this is supposed to take place later on in the afternoon or at night when I’m going to bed. But according to Harold Camping, those of us who are most likely where probably never going to see the sunrise. But here I am. The sun has risen and I still remain on earth. And I would suspect I’m here with the vast majority of those of us who are saved.

I do not think it would be out of line to make a prophecy of my own and predict that I will safely make it to my bed, fall asleep and wake up tomorrow in my bed, never hearing or seeing any reports of anything that we would expect if Harold Camping was right. I think my prophecy has a little bit better chance of being fulfilled, then Harold Camping prophecy. After all, he already predicted this in the past. And guess what? We Are still here.

So I think the outcome will be the same. And Harold Camping will just come out with some kind of excuse. Similar to last time, if not the same. Saying that he just miscalculated. And go on with his life. While many other people will have their lives severely affected by his prophecy for judgment day. From divorces/splitting the family up, quitting their jobs, selling their worldly possessions, suicide and so on. And I wouldn’t doubt that Harold Camping will probably be better off financially from all the donations that will have been sent to him and his organization from the people who believe the end of the world was coming.

So what Harold Camping has done will have a very negative impact. But what I don’t know is if Harold Camping knowingly did this for the purpose of having this negative impact on Christians/Christianity, to make a buck, or even if he genuinely thought he was doing good. Thinking that if he makes a doomsday prediction he will get a lot of people who will think “well, just in case I will become a Christian.” But of course these kind of people are not saved (But they do make donations), because they do not genuinely believe, they just believe just in case the end of the world is coming. But of course after doomsday comes and goes, so do these people.

Sadly, after this day has come and gone. Many of his followers will buy whatever excuse he gives them for why Judgment Day did not come. At come. And so they will continue following this false prophets blindly.

And yesterday I finally received the bike alarm which contained instructions like most other devices do.

However, it was incredibly difficult to read because, whoever they got to translate their instructions into English obviously dropped out of English 101. Reading it was absolutely hilarious and I couldn’t help feel a bit humiliated for this company that does not know just how bad and hard it is for the English reader to follow their instructions due to this horrendous translating job.

To give you an example. My favorite part in this translating job is when it says the following (this is word for word, mistake for mistake of what it says in the instructions):

“Sensitivity just. When the unit not work, press “C” and hold on until you hear(you should loose your hands after you hear each sound):” (From gallop bicycle alarm instructions page. Under usage, section 5)

I don’t know about you, but now I’m afraid the press and hold down “C” for I will lose my hands in doing so.

Don’t get me wrong. I have horrible grammar but this, makes me look like I am an English scholar.

Anyways I am providing a copy of the instructions for my readers, entertainment.

Yesterday, I spent a few hours scanning a great deal of old family photos, so that a copy of them can be backed up on line, if say the house burns down. I also did this so I can update our online family tree.

I have scanned photos before with no problems but, yesterday after spending many hours doing this the scanning software on my computer crashed and for some reason it deleted every last photo saved on my computer except one.

For the life of me I can’t figure out why it did this. But, I can tell you I was vary frustrated at all the time I spent scanning hundreds of photos only to have them disappear without being able to recover them.

What kind of programer, programs their software to delete all (but one) saved photos previously scanned after their software crashes? Because, of this I will need to take percussion that will make the whole process take longer if I want to back up my photos.

At lest it did not delete this photo. As this must be one of my favorites.

I’m amazed at how quick conspiracy theorists come out of the woodwork. Now many people are coming out and saying that Osama Bin Ladens death is a conspiracy by our government to draw attention away from Obama’s “fake” birth certificate. This did not take long at all. And it’s amusing (And sad). It seems the reason why … Continue reading »

It seems the reason why these people think there’s some kind of conspiracy is because of the medias inaccuracy in reporting things. But to these conspiracy theorists it’s not the medias fault, it’s the government’s fault.

So now, I’m going to end up getting into it with the conspiracy theorist who believes Osama Bin Laden was spotted singing with Elvis and the guy who shot Kennedy.
